Land of Toys by Bakke Land of Toys by Bakke
This is for Fabio, in memory of the great days we had at the land of toys (or pleasure island) :)

I like this design more than the Disney version... To me the Disney's Pleasure Island looks like an amusement park nothing bad about it, but the pan right to the entrance with the clown head animated and the freaky robotic figures... Mostly the clown is the reason I hate looking up anything pleasure island...

Looks nice! But I have to ask: Is the ginger next to Pinocchio, Candlewick(or Lampwick)?
Donkeys are leading the couch? MASSIVE FORESHADOWING

Well drawn.

The donkeys and boys are both adorable.

The donkeys appear to be well fed as well. Which makes me happy as I think it shows they're well treated. They're also adorable. I like the touch of them being different colours. One thing I disliked about the Disney version was them all being the same save for Pinocchio having grey ears and a tail.

I like the little touch of Candlewick/Lampwick having his arm around Pinocchio. Lampwick has a slightly naughty look on his face. He's going to have fun and he knows it. Pinocchio also looks cute and innocent.

Personally, despite what happens to them in the book, I like to think that even though they're going to become donkeys, they'll be happy donkeys that their human owners treat with love and respect.

first: thanks ;)
I tried to put in the illustration the details you noticed, but often i fail / or the things reamin unseen, so thanks ;P

your thoughts about the donkeys create - in my opinion - deep and diffucult questions. I think that the "land of toys" part in Pinocchio, now, in 2010, is the most powerful on the metaphorical level.
We now REALLY live in a Land of Toys. And yes, we know the right to do is going away, but...

I think in a way, the whole donkey tf represents never growing up. It's sort of a twisted never never land.

When I think of the donkeys, even if they're lucky and are well treated, it's like a person that never grew up.

There really is an appeal to being one of those donkeys. Not having a care in the world, having little expectations etc. It would be so easy to become one of them.

Yet, that appeal, of never leaving the land of toys has a real danger to it. They're going to be forever stuck at that state while they watch other boys be born, grow and eventually surpass them.

As those younger generations of boys grow into men, those older generations of boys, now donkeys will still be there, in the land of toys/on a farm/wherever never having grown up.

(I know that sounds kinda. Although that probably was what they were aiming for)

i wrote a story about a Land of Toys/Neverland. I saw the similarities between the two world, too.
What's most interisting, to me, is that, right now, a lot of societis are trying to force us to be donkey.
And let's face it: they have created a FANTASTIC land of toys. It's hard to leave it (mentally or phisically).

Sadly, I haven't still found an editor for the story. It's a 60-pages comic, and even if i had good respons from editors, i had the impression they didn't want to risk in the project.
I understand them, obviously, given the moment.

It's called cocu kluk (or Kocluk in french), there are some images in my gallery if you want to see them.

Sounds interesting, I'll check it out.

As for them not wanting to a risk, all I can say is to quote (or perhaps paraphrase anyway) a famous saying "he who will not risk, cannot win".
